Effortless

In the art world, originals are priceless. Copies, though they may look nice hanging on your wall, are worthless.

In the same way, we don’t need to try to be like anyone else. You don’t want to be me; you want to be you, fully filled with the power of the living God.

Whenever we try to copy others, it’s like putting on a suit that was tailor made for them and not us. It is ill-fitting. We end up never being comfortable with it. It doesn’t suit us. It looks great on them; it doesn’t look great on us.

After I fell flat on my face in front of the bookstore, a number of well-meaning people passed by and prayed for me. I lay there for a long time. Then, when it was time for me to speak, a group of them decided to haul me onto the stage and dump me in front of the pulpit. It was my turn to speak— no notes, no quotes. God was very clear with me: I had to be me and walk in the shoes He had given me, not trying to impress anyone else.

I asked God to help me do just that, and He gave me a beautiful message to share. It was amazing. I could take no credit for it whatsoever. Once I stopped trying to be somebody else, trying to make a name for myself— once I was content just to be me and allow Father God to do His thing through me— it was effortless. His words flowed through me, and He accomplished what He wanted to do.

God is in the business of creating originals, not copies. Embrace the fact that He made you to be you, and then cooperate with Him. When you stop striving and struggling and give Him space, that’s when His power can truly flow through you. His ways are so much higher than ours.
