While it is true that our gifts flow in spite of our character, that is no excuse to live like hell while we work like Heaven. Ultimately, we discredit our ministry as we are personally discredited. How many times have we ruined our ministry by acting out some of the most torrid, fleshly attitudes in the Name of Jesus? But Paul said it best, “… I show you a still more excellent way” (1 Cor. 12: 31).
We do have a choice. The question is simple: “Where do we want to live?” When we function in the gift realm, the gift flows freely since it flows out of us like water through a hose. But I do not want to live in the gift realm, which is the Holy Place. I don’t want to be a hose through which the gift flows. I want to be a river, a well-spring flowing from Him who dwells from within the Most Holy Place of my heart. His seat is the Mercy Seat. His throne is my heart. Our heart is His seat of mercy.
This kind of ministry flows from His character within us. He dwells in mercy and flows through holiness.
This is the dimension that does only what the Father is doing. It is the dimension of all God— no showmanship, no ego, and absolutely no personal kingdom building. Ministering from this realm, one can truly proclaim, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Phil. 4: 13 KJV); “for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Phil. 2: 13).
Fruit that passes from generation to generation is fruit born of Christ Himself. Fruit that stands the tests of storms and time is fruit planted by Christ through folks yielded to Him and Him alone. This is where I want to live. It is where I strive to live.
