“… Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” Luke 2: 15 “

When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.” Luke 2: 17

The wording of these two verses hit me in a different way. The shepherds went to see if it was true what had been made know to them by the announcement of the angel. After they found Mary and Joseph, and Jesus in the stable in Bethlehem, they made known to those around them what they had been told and what they had found.

This seems to be a similar pattern that the disciple John talks about as he begins his first letter: “what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son, Jesus Christ.” 1 John 1: 3

Perhaps the simple pattern for the follower of Christ is, “Take it in; give it out!” Another way of saying this, more closely aligned to the wording of the Luke scripture is,

“It’s been made know to you; make it known to someone else.”

How many sermons have you heard? How many Sunday School lessons have you heard? How many sermons or lessons on TV or the radio have you heard? Probably quite a few. So what are you going to do with what you have heard, that is, what has been made known to you? Have you ever told anyone else about Jesus and the way to eternal life? Have you ever told someone of how Jesus makes a difference in your life?

Perhaps one way would be to include your testimony in your Christmas letter. Perhaps you might include it with some little gift you take around to people in your neighborhood.

Scary? Look at what it says about the shepherds after they made known what had been made known to them: “The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.” Luke 2: 20

My prayer would be that you would find ways of making known what has been told you and who Jesus has been in your life, perhaps for many years. Also, that those experiences would get you ‘fired up’ to share your faith in the coming days and years as well.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for making Your Good News known to me, through the Bible and through other people who cared enough to share it with me. Help me to recognize and to take advantage of opportunities You would give me to make this message known to someone else this season.”
