Read Luke 2: 1-5
Old Testament prophecy made it clear that the Messiah would be from Nazareth. It also made it clear that He would be born in Bethlehem. How could that happen? Caesar decreed that a census be taken and that each person return to his ancestral town to register.
Interesting that God would use the most powerful man in the world to get the Holy Parents from Nazareth to Bethlehem at just the right time.
He does that all the time, doesn’t He? He works through people who don’t even recognize they are being used. He works through people who wouldn’t even want to be used. He works through people who don’t even believe he exists.
A program created by our local school superintendent to promote partnerships between businesses and schools reintroduced me to the childhood friend who would become my wife.
A decision 35 years ago by some of the most powerful and ruthless people in the world to limit Chinese families to one child added two precious daughters to our family.
Let us not be afraid, Lord, of circumstances that seem to take us out of our way. Align our lives with your calling, so we can trust that you have the circumstances in our lives under control. Likewise, use our lives as parts of your crazy plan. If you can use Caesar, you can use any of us. Amen.
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world…. And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
