Are We Being the Salt & Light
The Moment Of Truth ( what people think when you are mentioned)
I am sharing a thought today about Ministry it the Marketplace, workplace, school or wherever the lord has placed you at this time.
we are all called to minister and we know that we are all called to be the Salt of the Earth & the Light of the world.
Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT)
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
I am sharing my thoughts from the position from the view or perception of others in the market place by many of those who are not Christians. I hope this helps help us see if we are being the salt & light as living examples of how Jesus would have us be.
I have worked in many different industries and roles over the years and I have run across so many men & women of God that have been such a blessing to be around and then we all have met someone who set a terrible example of how we as Christians should act.
We are supposed to be sharing the Good News and I often hear & see believers alienate a person or a group in a moment’s time and believe that it was of the Lord even though they have now separated themselves from those that they are to be salt & light too.
Here is a story A women told shared with me during a bible study, she said all of the people she works with know that she is believer, she is friendly and nice and interacting with everyone.
She was beginning to be accepted and the people were becoming comfortable with her and began to share their lives and daily stories and because they are unsaved people they have a more open and colorful language. The Christian co-worker then proceeded to explain that she did not like the other women’s language as it offended her and she was now wondering why many of the people at work treat her like an alien.
I will say if she made here statement to the woman the way she said it to me, it was not done in love as much as it done in frustration, Now they don’t cuss around her or have much real conversation at all and she has alienated herself from them and she created a negative perception of Christ like character and has left know opportunity to share the good news.
Where was the Salt or Light in that situation?
We are supposed to show love and be a light and we would not be able to be used by God in many areas if we were offended by the actions and words of the saved and unsaved. She was more concerencen about herself as we know the lord was ok with hanging out with sinners and is well aware that they may not act like Him.
Remember Unsaved !
When I used to work in the shipyards regarding this same issue, I was a lead on several ships and so I was often interacting with all the other departments, they knew I was a Christians and besides the jokes and strong language I would often hear comments regarding my faith. I was also well thought of respected by many, I can’t tell you how many time someone would start to cuss and then just apologize with without any comment from me.
I Believe Daniel gives us an amazing example of Salt & Light !
New Living Translation (NLT)
18 “‘Belteshazzar, that was the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now tell me what it means, for none of the wise men of my kingdom can do so. But you can tell me because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.’
Daniel Explains the Dream
19 “Upon hearing this, Daniel (also known as Belteshazzar) was overcome for a time, frightened by the meaning of the dream. Then the king said to him, ‘Belteshazzar, don’t be alarmed by the dream and what it means.’
“Belteshazzar replied, ‘I wish the events foreshadowed in this dream would happen to your enemies, my lord, and not to you!
Nebuchadnezzar Praises God
34 “After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever.
His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. 35 All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’
36 “When my sanity returned to me, so did my honor and glory and kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored as head of my kingdom, with even greater honor than before.
37 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”
In finishing my challenge is this or at least for me it is how can I allow God to truly use me as salt & light and even more so how do I make sure I am modeling that behavior to those I disciple.
I love that Daniel Never wanted Justice he just wanted God’s Heart for King Nebuchadnezzar, and the king finished well..
